We’re excited to welcome Laura Capello as Cohere’s new Regional Director for Arizona — and as the interim Executive Director here at Blossom Rock. A longtime nonprofit leader with a passion for connection, Laura brings heart, strategy, and a deep belief in the power of community to everything she does. Though she didn’t follow a traditional path into community management, she’s already proving to be a natural fit — and we can’t wait for you to get to know her better.
Tell us a bit about yourself
While I’ve spent the majority of my career in the nonprofit sector, my background is in public relations and marketing. I earned my degree in Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. I’m also a proud graduate of Valley Leadership, and I’m a big believer in the power of leadership programs that inspire individuals to drive change in their communities.
That’s one of the things I love most about Cohere — its commitment to fostering programs that empower people to make a difference.
What inspired you to take on the role of Regional Director for Arizona?
To be honest, when I was first approached about this role, I wasn’t sure I was the right fit — I didn’t come from a traditional community management background. But as I learned more about Cohere and its mission to bring the life-changing power of community to the world, I felt drawn to it. Community building and social impact are in my DNA.
I served as CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona for nearly 12 years and also worked at the ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation. I’m truly excited to be part of a team that is passionate about strengthening neighborhoods and creating meaningful connections.
What characteristics or values do you think help build a strong community?
I’ve always been a community builder — even before I realized that’s what I was doing. Strong communities are built in many ways: through friendships, neighborhoods, careers, and shared interests. I believe having a sense of belonging is essential to living a fulfilling life. We all need a village, and through our work at Cohere, we’re helping to create those supportive, connected spaces for people to thrive.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Both of my parents are Italian, and I’ve been diving deep into my Italian roots. I’ve visited Italy a couple of times already, and I’m planning another trip in 2026. While there are so many incredible places in the world I’d love to explore, Italy will always be my first choice — it feels like going home.
Laura’s passion for people and community shines through in everything she does, and we’re excited to see her impact unfold across Arizona. Want to connect with her directly? She’d love to hear from you.
